Soprano Julie Ziavras and pianist/composer Steve Margoshes share the stage to launch a new concert series with songs celebrating spring and young love. Julie Ziavras, described by the New York Times as "an estimable vocalist' and Steve Margoshes, pianist, Broadway composer and orchestrator (Fame, The Musical), present a program of classical song and Steve's original compositions. Works featured are in six languages and include Mahler, Faure, Duparc, Mompou, Grieg, Theodorakis, Jerome Kern, Gershwin and a new song Steve has composed to the poetry of e.e. Cummings to be premiered by Julie in this concert. This inaugural concert of the Arthur Patchett Memorial Music Series is presented by the Wallkill River Center for the Arts (formerly the Wallkill River School), with proceeds to benefit the Wallkill River Center for the Arts and The Chris Farlekas Legacy Fund. Soprano Julie Ziavras is guest soloist with the chamber ensemble Musica Mundana under the Artistic Direction of pianist Aysegul Durakoglu. The musical program is inspired by the journey of the legendary Orient Express which traveled between Paris and Istambul at the end of the 19th century. The international repertory includes waltzes, tangos, gypsy and czardas music by Bartok, Liszt, Strauss and Monti, music by Debussy, Satie, Piazzolla, operatic arias by Lehar and Offenbach and Ottoman court music from the 19th century. Julie will present Ravel's Greek Songs, Offenbach, Massenet, Franz Lehar and Richard Strauss, accompanied by the chamber ensemble. Performers include Members of the Chamber Music Society Musica Mundana; Aysegul Durakoglu, pianist and Artistic Director, cellist Leo Grinhauz, violinist Claudia Schaer and narrator Anthony Pennino. Durakoglu, an acclaimed pianist, has recorded and performed internationally with major orchestras. She began her musical training at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory and as a scholarship recipient continued her studies in NY receiving her Master degree from Juilliard and Ph.D from New York University, where she served on the piano faculty. In 1998, she established the Chamber Music Society Musica Mundana and is currently on the faculty of the Music and Technology Department at the Stevens Institute. Julie Ziavras will join a cast of six opera singers celebrating the life of the late soprano Claudia Cummings, who has had a lasting impact on the classical music scene of the Hudson Valley. In her 25 year operatic career, Claudia Cummings had appeared all over the world singing lead operatic roles, including with the NY City Opera, San Francisco Opera and Chicago Lyric Opera. After moving to the Hudson Valley in 1979, she produced numerous concerts throughout the region as the Co-Producing Director of the Festival Theater of New York with her husband, the eminent Shakespearean actor Jack Aranson. She also was the Founder and Artistic Director of the Opera Company of the Highlands (OCH) and Conductor of the Newburgh Symphonic Chorale. Mount Saint Mary College conferred upon her the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Julie performed in numerous concerts and operas that she directed, including principle roles in her OCH productions of The Marriage of Figaro, Die Fledermaus, Hansel & Gretel and Showboat. This concert is being organized by two of her colleagues from OCH Terri Vargas and Rose Wolvek. For this Celebration, Julie will join the following principal singers of OCH singing arias and ensembles from operas that Claudia directed; Lori-Brown Mirabel, Jeremy Moore, Vira Slywotzky, Jabob Feldman and Rebecca Gordon, with piano accompanist Ryan Kennedy. There will be a showing of selections from Claudia's superb PBS performance of Lucia Di Lammermoor. Claudia's DVDs will be on sale for $15. All the proceeds and donations from this concert will be given to the Alzheimers Foundation and "The Mount Scholarship Fund" in Claudia's name. A reception in Fellowship Hall will follow the concert. Julie will sing the card scene from Bizet's Carmen, which will be staged and costumed, a trio from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and a dramatic duet from Verdi's Trovatore. The program also includes a duet from Puccini's Madame Butterfly, the quartet from act III of La Boheme, Turandot and duets from Bizet's Pearlfishers and Verdi's Traviata. Vocalist Julie Ziavras will join the internationally renowned classical and jazz guitarist and composer Spiros Exaras for a program of international folk inspired music. They will perform different styles of music, including jazz, folk and world music sing in several different languages. The program will include works by DeFalla and Lorca inspired by Spanish folk melodies. They are joined by guest singer/songwriter and guitarist Ken DeAngelis. Soprano Julie Ziavras will join the cast of The Mostly Opera Company for their annual dinner theater performance entitled "An Odd Couple", celebrating the music of Steven Sondheim & Andrew Lloyd Webber. Two of the most famous composers of Broadway, these two greats have written over 50 shows, an "odd coupling" variety of very different styles. The program is accompanied by an instrumental ensemble led by Music Director Linda Houck at the piano. Featured is music from Evita, Cats, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Sunset Boulevard, Follies, Company, Jesus Christ Superstar, Into the Woods, Phantom of the Opera and more, with a special guest appearance by the dancers of the Scranton Civic Ballet. Julie's solos are "Don't Cry for me Argentina" from Webber's Evita and Sondheim's "Ladies who Lunch" from Company. The dinner theater begins with a cash bar cocktail hour at 6:00 pm followed by the full course dinner and the show in the ballroom at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $65 for dinner and the show. A concert of original theater works by composer/pianists Steve Margoshes and Ada Janek Margoshes with guest artists Julie Ziavras & Ken DeAngelis. This extraordinary husband and wife composer/pianist team will perform excerpts from their various theater works. This will be a show that is both fun and virtuosic. The concert, presented by the Grand Montgomery Chamber Music Series founded by Howard & Judy Garrett, is free and open to the public. For the first half of the program, pianist, composer and Broadway orchestrator Steve Margoshes presents a light-hearted retrospective of his years in music. Best known as the composer of *Fame - the Musical, Steve’s past collaborators include Jim Rado* & Jerry Ragni (authors of *Hair). Steve has written for theatre, symphony, ballet, rock recordings and songs in various styles. His selections include his compositions using Shakespeare’s* text as lyrics for which I (Julie Ziavras) am guest singer, his musical version of *A Midsummer Night’s Dream, excerpts from his soundtrack for a documentary about the Three Stooges* and his Piano Rhapsody *This Is Forever. Julie Ziavras* and Ken DeAngelis with his guitar are guest singers for two songs Steve has written songs in the folk/bluegrass vein. Jeanne-Marie Lowell will join him singing a selection from *“New songs from Oz”* written for the Oztravaganza Festival in Chittenango, NY (birthplace of L. Frank Baum). The second half of the program features Ada Janek Margoshes' grownup musical fantasy *"The Little Prince", which is lyrically beautiful and absolutely charming. It is a musical adaptation of the book The Little Prince, by Antoine de St.-Exupery* sung in English. The cast features wonderful Musical Theater professionals; boy soprano Oliver Nathanielsz as The Little Prince, Julia Nightingale as The Rose and Jonathan Victorian as The Aviator. Julie Ziavras and Jeanne Marie Lowell as The Lady Narrators sing the story narration. Ada accompanies at the piano with a haunting clarinet obligato. This short version of the show is staged and costumed. The concert is free and open to the public. Free refreshments served at intermission. Come early to be ensured a seat.

These geniuses invented the American sound of music in the 1920s and 30s and introduced a new style of music to the world.
